Ida Mathilde
Bergen
Hello!
My name is Ida Mathilde, and I have been part of FugleAdvokatene since April 2026. Growing up, I always loved animals and found comfort in them during a vulnerable time.
In mid-2025, I found a pigeon lying on Olav Kyrres gate. Sadly, it did not survive its injuries, but since then I have felt a need to look after and stand up for the birds that spend their days in the city centre.
In March 2026, I began noticing more injured pigeons and reporting them for help. Eventually, I decided to volunteer and take birds into my home. I was soon asked whether I could take in a pigeon that needed help with a toe. In the short time I had been volunteering when I wrote this, I had already cared for five or six birds and learned an incredible amount.
When I leave the house, I always carry a few peanuts for a lucky crow or a handful of seeds for a pigeon that needs a little pick-me-up. I also carry scissors and tweezers in case I spot a bird with string tangled around its feet!
Volunteering has given me a new network of people who share my interests and goals. Someone is always just a message away if help is needed. We need more rehabilitation homes in Bergen, so that every patient can receive the support it needs, and so that those of us taking in birds can continue to provide the care and treatment they need.
